IGWT Institute examines the formal, narrative, and aesthetic structures of digital games, visual novels, animation, and related media arts. Our work focuses on close textual and ludic analysis, narrative theory, and the study of tropes across interactive and animated media, especially works from East Asia.
As an independent academic and critical publisher, the institute is preparing two serial publications: Ludotextual Studies, a double-anonymous peer-reviewed Diamond Open Access journal, and IGWT, a semi-annual magazine of criticism, interviews, and close readings. Through open-access scholarship and long-form criticism, the institute supports rigorous inquiry into contemporary narrative media.
